With the VrijBeleggen investment form, you choose how you wish to invest and how much risk you wish to take. In this case, it is important to determine your investor profile. An investor profile indicates the kind of investor you are. It is a good idea to invest according to this investor profile, but you may also make a different choice.
In your investment mix, you decide the extent to which you reduce your investment risk as you approach your retirement date. This means that you change your mix of funds in order to reduce your investment risk.
How does VrijBeleggen work?
You decide how you invest
You can invest in several funds, including selected Zwitserleven funds, iShares funds and ASN funds. A complete list of all the funds you can choose from, including their sustainability ambitions, can be found in the overview. You can enter your own orders in MijnZwitserleven to adjust your investment mix. If you want to adjust your investment risk, you can change your investment mix. Risk will not be reduced automatically as you approach your retirement date.
Your investor profile is a guide
Your investor profile acts as a guide for composing your investment mix. For example, if you have a defensive investor profile, we recommend that you invest less in equity funds. Zwitserleven checks each year whether your investment mix matches your investor profile and informs you accordingly. You then decide whether to adjust your investments. Or you may first redefine your investor profile by filling in the questionnaire again.
VrijBeleggen suits experienced investors
VrijBeleggen is not for everyone. For VrijBeleggen, you need to have experience in and knowledge of investing. Participants using VrijBeleggen are personally responsible and must make their own independent choices. Zwitserleven does not advise participants. You can, of course, always seek advice from an adviser. When investing, it is important to keep up to date about the current economic situation. It is thus essential that you know where to find information for making your investment decisions.

When to choose VrijBeleggen?
There are advantages and disadvantages to VrijBeleggen. Whether it is right for you depends on what is important to you. And what options you have within your pension scheme. Therefore, first check in MijnZwitserleven which investment forms you can opt for. The overview below shows the situations in which you could consider VrijBeleggen.
Pros
- You yourself assess how much risk you are willing and able to bear. And what suits your personal situation and wishes. You yourself compose your investment mix.
- You can invest in several funds, including selected Zwitserleven funds, iShares funds and ASN funds. A complete list of all the funds you can choose from, including their sustainability ambitions, can be found in the overview.
- VrijBeleggen offers an opportunity to achieve a higher pension income.
- You decide when and how much of your pension capital you will use to purchase a guaranteed old-age and partner's pension (with ZekerheidZwitch).
- You decide how much of the value of your plan assets you wish to prepare for a variable pension income.
- You are free to change your investment form to HorizonBeleggen or ProfielBeleggen in the interim, if this is possible within your pension scheme.
Cons
- You need knowledge of investing to be able to assess risk. You will not receive advice from Zwitserleven.
- You are responsible for determining an investor profile and making sure it suits your personal situation. You need to reset your profile at least once every five years and in case of significant events (such as marriage, divorce or retirement).
- With VrijBeleggen, you run the risk of a lower pension income if your investments decline in value and/or interest rates fall just before your retirement date. Risk will not be reduced automatically as you approach your retirement date. You yourself are responsible for this.
- Zwitserleven is not responsible for the returns on your investments or whether these deliver an adequate pension.
- You cannot invest in funds other than those selected by Zwitserleven.
May suit you if you:
- have knowledge and experience of investing.
- want to invest in one or more of the selected Zwitserleven funds, iShares funds or ASN funds.
- want your investment policy to better reflect the risk you are willing and able to bear and your personal situation and wishes.
- want to decide when and how much of your pension capital you will use to purchase a guaranteed old-age and partner's pension.
- want to decide how much of the value of your plan assets you wish to prepare for a variable pension income.
Probably suits you less if you:
- have no knowledge and experience of investing.
- do not wish to take responsibility for your investment mix until your retirement date.
