“Sitting still is impossible for me. I've had about 10 different jobs in my life. And I always worked hard. My last job was at the secretariat at a large accounting firm. That's where I worked the longest. I remember well, that some time before my retirement date, someone from human resources came to me, asking if I wanted to start thinking about 'reducing'. And all I could think was: reduce? The kids had already left home, so I just wanted to go at it hard for a while longer!”
Working longer was possible after consultation with my employer. My pension was not so high at that time either. By working longer, I could also build up a little more pension. When I finally retired after three years of working longer, my adviser started talking about the right to shop around. I had no idea what that was. What it means is you can simply choose from what pension provider you want to get your pension from. Together we then compared all the different providers. The differences were slight, but in the end, I chose the highest income. That was with Zwitserleven. That company also gave me a good feeling.
Apparently, I had a number of small pensions, from the past, from all sorts of jobs as a student. I was able to merge those with all the other pension pots. So I have a slightly higher pension income.
Now that I am finally retired, I really enjoy the free time. And I have become a grandmother, of a very sweet granddaughter, with whom I go swimming every week. Family is important, especially now that I am getting older. That's why my husband and I both chose a partner's pension, so if something happens, you're not left empty-handed.
